Hail in 30540 (Ellijay) on July 20, 2022
NOAA radar estimated hail up to 1.22 inches (quarter size) in zip code 30540 (Ellijay) on July 20, 2022, with about 4% of the zip at an inch or more. That ranks 1st of 14 hail days of three quarters of an inch or more in 30540 since October 2020.
What hail this size does to a roof
Quarter size hail is the size most often behind roof damage claims. It can bruise shingles and dent soft metals, especially on roofs more than a few years old. That was about 4.2 years ago. Policies set deadlines for reporting a loss and for lawsuits, so check yours before assuming an older storm can still be claimed. Damage from it can still matter when a newer storm hits.
