On July 1, 2023, hail reached an estimated 1.84 inches (golf ball size) over zip code 30628 in Colbert; about 20% of the zip saw an inch or more. That ranks 1st of 6 hail days of three quarters of an inch or more in 30628 since October 2020.
What hail this size does to a roof
Golf ball size hail and larger breaks shingle mats, cracks tile and dents metal roofing, gutters and siding. Roofs in the core of a swath like this are often replaced. That was about 3.3 years ago. Policies set deadlines for reporting a loss and for lawsuits, so check yours before assuming an older storm can still be claimed. Damage from it can still matter when a newer storm hits.
