On March 26, 2023, hail reached an estimated 0.55 inches (pea to dime size) over zip code 30318 in Atlanta. That ranks 2nd of 7 hail days of three quarters of an inch or more in 30318 since October 2020.
What hail this size does to a roof
Quarter size hail is the size most often behind roof damage claims. It can bruise shingles and dent soft metals, especially on roofs more than a few years old. That was about 3.6 years ago. Policies set deadlines for reporting a loss and for lawsuits, so check yours before assuming an older storm can still be claimed. Damage from it can still matter when a newer storm hits.
