NOAA radar estimated hail up to 1.59 inches (ping pong ball size) in zip code 30344 (Atlanta) on March 26, 2023, with about 82% of the zip at an inch or more. That ranks 1st of 4 hail days of three quarters of an inch or more in 30344 since October 2020.
What hail this size does to a roof
Golf ball size hail and larger breaks shingle mats, cracks tile and dents metal roofing, gutters and siding. Roofs in the core of a swath like this are often replaced. That was about 3.6 years ago. Policies set deadlines for reporting a loss and for lawsuits, so check yours before assuming an older storm can still be claimed. Damage from it can still matter when a newer storm hits.
