Hail in 30540 (Ellijay) on July 20, 2023
On July 20, 2023, hail reached an estimated 0.78 inches (penny size) over zip code 30540 in Ellijay. That ranks 12th of 14 hail days of three quarters of an inch or more in 30540 since October 2020.
What hail this size does to a roof
Penny size hail can bruise aging shingles and mark soft metals. Newer roofs often come through it, so an inspection is how you find out. That was about 3.2 years ago. Policies set deadlines for reporting a loss and for lawsuits, so check yours before assuming an older storm can still be claimed. Damage from it can still matter when a newer storm hits.
